Job Opening – Residual Stress Engineer (Materials Testing)
JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for supervision of all aspects of the Materials Testing Division X-ray Diffraction services and systems. Provides measurement assistance, product troubleshooting, and customer support. Provides direction and support for development of products and services to expand the Materials Testing Laboratory capabilities. Interfaces with other personnel as part of product development/improvement, and marketing as necessary. Responsible for providing training to lab personnel and customers. Acts as the technical lead for quality matters related to the Materials Testing Division.

Serves as the Corporate Radiation Safety Officer. | |
Performs customer measurements in the MT Laboratory in accordance with quality requirements. | |
Assists with closing and converting products and services sales as required. | |
Performs applied research, publishes technical papers and application notes, and makes technical presentations. | |
Performs tasks related to problem solving, product enhancement, and product development projects as required. | |
Participates in industry initiatives and on ad hoc committees as business responsibilities allow. | |
Identifies, recommends, and assists with developing new products and services related to current capabilities. |
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCES:
- Demonstrated ability to deal with difficult customer situations. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Courteous and cordial oral communication skills in-person and on the telephone.
- Must be clearly understood and have a command of the English language.
- Ability to accomplish projects/research and provide oral and written presentations.
- General problem-solving aptitude.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings, datasheets, and written work instructions.
- Technical and applied knowledge of x-ray diffraction and fluorescence.
- Technical and applied knowledge of residual stress and retained austenite measurement and analysis.
- Applied practice of adhering to basic safety procedures and practices for use of laboratory equipment, chemicals, low-level radiation and electricity.
- Ability to use measurement equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers and depth gages)
- Keyboarding skills and applied knowledge of computers and relevant software applications to include Microsoft Office, required. SAP Business One experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to supervise and provide technical mentoring to subordinates.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/LICENSES:
- Master’s Degree in engineering or related technical field
- 5 years of experience in a directly associated field, or 10 years of experience in a general engineering position.
- Valid driver’s license and passport
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Works predominately in an office environment: extensive computer work, carrying out both manual and repetitive arm hand and finger movements in regard to computerized data entry and data processing tasks; and providing verbal contact with customers and co-workers.
- Job requires the ability to lift, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to 20 pounds daily, 20-50 pounds frequently (60%) and over 50 pounds often (25%).
- Job may require walking or standing for brief periods of time and may include periodic bending, stooping, crouching, and climbing as job requires.
- Works in an adequately heated and ventilated space.
- Mental activities necessary include concentration, mathematical accuracy, organizational, and communication skills.
